Winter Fashion Must Haves

A lot of people feel down after the holiday season, especially when faced with long nights and cold, dreary weather. To chase away any of those winter blues, I like to focus on the fresh start of the New Year and my resolutions. I also throw all of that holiday planning energy back into the store and work; building out my calendar with new speaking engagements, trunk shows, and my upcoming book tour. Adding some balance to my work routine, I also look forward to January every year as we countdown to Super Bowl Sunday and awards season.

But my biggest indulgence as we embrace the snowy weather and cold is winter fashion. Flannel and fleece are great fabrics especially for a cozy afternoon on the couch, but there’s a wealth of fashionable winter wear in neutral and bold patterns, colors and fabrics, that will brighten up even the darkest, winters day.

Here’s a list of some of my favorite fashionable winter must-haves for your wardrobe that will keep you warm and stylish straight through to the spring thaw:

Nautical Chic

Pantone’s 2020 Color of the Year set off a flurry of fashionable pieces in classic blue, and I love the elegant look of nautical-inspired clothing. Besides being timeless, nautical-inspired clothes are also ageless and flatter just about every body shape. This gorgeous cashmere sweater from J Crew is a winter staple; the beautiful blend of yarns makes it super soft on your skin.

This grosgrain-trimmed wool-blend navy coat by Gucci is exquisite! The tailoring is precise and fine with just a hint of eclectic details that refreshes this classic coat. From the satin lining to the gold GG buttons, this coat will last for years.

Winter Whites

Whoever said you shouldn’t wear white after Labor Day didn’t get the Winter White memo. Wear your whites in winter with confidence like this gorgeous crepe tuxedo suit from Armani. Perfect for a black-tie affair (but don’t make a faux pas of wearing it to a wedding!!), this pure silk suit feels like heaven on your skin and makes a style statement.

The foldover collar on this white wool topper from Saks Fifth Avenue is so flattering for the neckline, you’ll wish all of your tops had this collar! Dress up your favorite pair of leggings for a casual day at the office or date night look.

Emerald Green

When it comes to bold color choices in winter, look no further than jewel tones. Sure, you’ll paint the town red in February, but don’t overlook emerald green to bring some sparkle to your winter wear. This wrap sweater dress from Macy’s with a shimmering grommet at the waist can be dressed up or down depending on your footwear. Select a stiletto and gold jewelry for a night out, or pair with your favorite boots and a wool floppy hat for a bohemian vibe.

All eyes in the room will be on you in this Ralph Lauren satin cocktail dress from Macy’s in emerald green. Classically tailored, it features a figure-flattering A-line silhouette, surplice neckline, and ruching gathered at the waist.

Emeralds don’t have to break the bank, especially these budget-friendly gold and emerald drop earrings from Givenchy. Add a pop of color to your outfit with these gorgeous earrings!

Animal Print

Y’all know I love my animal prints, and accessorizing is a great way to incorporate your favorite animal patterns and prints into your winter wardrobe. Animal prints should be used in moderation, so think a snakeskin belt here and a leopard print bag there, even a zebra print pair of gloves, and you’ve added just the right amount of wild and edgy to any outfit. Wear all black with this pair of leopard calf hair flats from Cole Haan for just a touch of comfy glam.

This genuine snakeskin purse with tassel from Nordstrom is perfect for a night out on the town.

Available in both leopard and cheetah prints, this leather belt from Amazon is a best seller! Use with your favorite pair of jeans, to chinch your waist on a solid sweater dress, or add style to a black tailored pants suit.
