Lori’s Spring Fashion Favorites

We’re all excited for the warmer weather brought on by spring but showing more skin can mean putting some of our body insecurities on display. We’re excited about floral prints, bright colors, and lighter fabrics, but parting with our cozy knits, warm fleece, and comfy lululemon athleisure is bittersweet.

When shopping for spring fashions this year, keep some of my go-to tips in mind:

  • It’s important that you feel good in your clothing; make sure that you’re wearing styles and colors that suit your skin tone and your body shape.
  • Don’t wear your clothes too tight or too large. Invest in alterations to ensure the perfect fit for your body shape.
  • Whether it’s your 9-to-5 or an after-hours event, I much prefer dresses to fancy shorts or capri pants. Sure, there are a time and a place for trendy looks, but just because it’s trendy doesn’t necessarily mean it works for you! Try on and ask a friend for their opinion when there’s a new style you’re not sure about.
  • Spring dresses are extremely versatile; you can dress them up or down with a cashmere wrap or some casual accessories.

I’m looking forward to some of the fashion looks for spring that went from the runway to the department stores. Here are just a few of my go-to looks for spring from some of my favorite brands:

Elie Tahari:

Show off your sculpted shoulders in this beautiful printed halter maxi dress by Tahari, available in two springy shades. I also love this versatile jumpsuit with flutter sleeves and a wide-leg cut, you can go from the office to an after-hours event with a quick change of accessories and some high heels. Also available in neutral and pastel colors, I highly recommend making a style statement by choosing a shade that pops against your skin.

White House Black Market:

Prepare for those inevitable spring showers with this classic trench coat from White House Black Market, which pairs beautifully with an array of styles. Protect your eyes while looking chic with these oversized sunglasses; reminiscent of Jackie O, they get the Monte seal of approval.

Benetton:

I love this short sleeve cashmere sweater from Benetton in hula green with an understated shimmer. The bright Easter egg color is just perfect for spring and can be easily paired with a navy pencil skirt for the office, or with your favorite pair of jeans and slides for Sunday brunch.

Michael Kors:

Michael Kors has tapped into old school glam with this ‘40s inspired V-neck polka dot flared dress. Modest with a knee-length skirt yet fitted at the bust, this cut is flattering for every body shape. Indulge your wild side this spring while showing a little skin with this ruffle off the shoulder peasant top, it’s Boho chic at its finest!

Keds:

Have fun with casual footwear this spring and check out the Keds collection of canvas shoes. These Kate Spade New York multi sneakers are so springy with that extra wedge for comfort and height.

Net-a-Porter

Designers brought out a burst of color for the spring 2020 collection of jewelry, and I love seeing more bold colors in jewelry designs. Rose quartz is trending this season, and for good reason! These 14-karat gold hoop earrings are understated and pretty; wear them to the office with a tailored suit or for an evening night out with your favorite halter dress.

St. Tropez:

These days, you never have to greet Spring with that pale pallor of winter on your skin. I love a good sunless tanner like this in shower gradual tan gel by St Tropez. You’ll give yourself that fresh glow of spring before we even change the clocks!

Prayers & A Whiskey

It was a challenge when Arkansas police officer and our feature bride, Jessica Seewald, brought her bridal entourage including celebrity sister-in-law Jessa Duggar Seewald to the salon to shop for her dream wedding gown. But you know I absolutely love a challenge! Jessica was hoping to replace her blue uniform with a more figure flattering and slightly revealing mermaid cut couture gown, while her entourage was hell bent on hiding the curves and the cleavage in a more modest gown. After trying on a number of gorgeous options, Jessica started wondering if what she envisioned would work for her. We see this all the time, brides come into the salon with a vision of what they think they want, and then discover that it just might not work after all. With a little help from our floor manager Robin, and a phone call with Mom, Jessica said yes to a stunning A-line Matthew Christopher designer gown that fit Jessica’s figure perfectly.

Meanwhile, we sent Monte downstairs to help Ashlen on the bridesmaids floor with our bride, Dominique, but he kept bailing on me! Domonique’s Maid-of-Honor and twin sister Monique thought she was running the plays on the dresses for the bridal party, but we quickly discovered which one was really calling the shots. It took a couple of tries but we were finally able to find a maid of honor gown that let Monique shine a bit brighter than the rest of the bridal party.
