Lori’s Favorite Spring Runway Looks for your Closet
With the beautiful spring weather comes the promising news that our COVID-19 numbers are improving across the United States. In Georgia, we’ve seen a huge increase in vaccinations, which means that a return to some semblance of normalcy is right around the corner. At Bridals by Lori, we continue to follow all of the health and safety rules as prescribed by the CDC, while making sure that our staff and customers are safe. It’s exciting to see people making plans, going out, safely attending celebrations, while others have returned to working full time out of the home.
As restrictions start easing in many areas, people are looking to swap out their leisurewear for some new attire. I’ve been following some of the hottest looks from the Spring/Summer fashion runways and I’m excited by some of the trends, while I find others a lot less realistic for the average woman. The bralette and flossing look works well if you have a certain body shape, but I’ll admit that as soon as I birthed both my babies, my midriff flashing days were over. If I’m being transparent, I was never really overly comfortable showing so much skin off of the beach; but like a piece of art, I can observe and appreciate the style without wanted to emulate it. Also, call me old-fashioned, but I do believe that a corset should be worn underneath your clothing, and not on top!
With that said, there were a lot of fashionable looks that will work for all different shapes and sizes. Here are just a couple of my favorites:
Monochrome – I’m excited to see so many different types of monochrome outfits for spring/summer. This style is so flattering on every body type; it’s slimming and stylish. I love this dress from Nordstrom, the monochrome tapered top and pleated skirt make it the perfect ensemble for warmer weather! You can pair it with a black or white jacket for a more formal look for the office or dress it up or down with kitten heels or ballet flats.
Floaty Maxi Dresses:
The fashion world has come a long way from the Mumu dress, with so many wonderful options in maxi dresses. I love wearing oversized maxi dresses in a light material during our annual beach vacation, but when I’m looking for something to wear to a spring/summer special occasion or during date night, I always make sure to choose some tapered detailing to give me a figure-flattering shape. This sleeveless printed chiffon halter neck maxi dress from Monique Lhuillier has the loveliest floral print and delicately pleated skirt. The halter neck shows off sculpted shoulders, while the chiffon drapes and flows with your body. It’s a wonderful piece for your wardrobe that won’t be going out of style any time soon!
This season, we’re saying goodbye to pashminas and hello to capes. I’ve seen so many interesting interpretations of the cape, from full-on outerwear to subtle cape detailing. You have to be careful with this look, though. Too oversized and you run the risk of looking a couple of sizes larger than you’d like. This wrapped cape top by Altrazarra is gorgeous and figure-friendly. You can dress this down with a nice pair of jeans and cork-soled sandals, or pair with a flowy summer skirt and high-heel sandals for a night out on the town!
There’s a common misconception that pleats add bulk to your build. Well, I’m here to tell you that pleated skirts are great for every body type! I love this color block pleated midi skirt from Ann Taylor and this one from Anne Klein, they’re both airy and floaty and the colors are so beautiful for spring. I especially love that this skirt comes in petite sizes for people like me who don’t want to have to wear high heels for the skirt length to hit just right.
A little bling can go a long way when it comes to accessories. Sequins on belts, shoes, and handbags can make a style statement. This crystal beaded clutch from Nordstrom is available in multiple colors and is very budget-friendly!
