Lori’s Fall Fashion Picks
I’ve been spending my final summer weekends sorting through my closet, which I try to do at the start of every season. It’s important to take stock of what you already have before you go shopping! How many times have you purchased a new pair of pants or shoes, only to discover that you already have something similar hiding in the back of your closet? It’s time to put a stop to that, especially if you’re being mindful of your budgets.
Like many of you, I’ve also had to change up my wardrobe based on our current climate. I’ve been spending a lot more time working at home, either scheduling early morning conference calls right after my workouts or hosting media interviews in between bridal appointments at the salon. I’ve been doing a lot of zoom interviews during the promotional tour for my book Say Yes to What’s Next, so I’ve been able to get away with a nice top and my favorite Lululemon yoga pants. It’s no surprise that there’s been a big boost in sales on athleisure and loungewear since working from home isn’t ending any time soon. Fortunately, you don’t have to sacrifice on fashion for comfort.
I’m looking forward to the cooler, crisper weather and some new wardrobe staples to get me through to winter. Looking for some fall fashion inspiration? Here are some of my favorite picks for this new season:
Athleisure – Lululemon is one of my favorite go-to brands for apparel that’s perfect for exercising and casual, comfortable wear. Whether I’m conducting a conference call and media interview, or I’m ready for my morning yoga session, I can always mix and match to strike the perfect balance. I love these align pants for my workouts, they come in three different lengths which are so helpful for us petite gals! I live in their sundown sweater wrap during the fall; I grab it as a cover-up when the nights are chilly and I have to walk Chloe, and I can also dress it up a bit with some jewelry for a zoom call with clients. Don’t underestimate the importance of a quality jacket for those cooler, fall mornings. The Lululemon always effortless jacket is made out of such soft material that you will have a hard time taking it off once you put it on!
I love the layered look; it just opens up to so many different mix and match options based on occasion. Mollie turned me on to these perfect layering t-shirts from Z Supply and now I’m absolutely hooked. They are available in so many great, classic shades. Layering gold necklaces is also a fun trend that can elevate your outfit, and Nordstrom Rack has so many great options at really affordable prices. I also love a faux leather jacket, which looks great with jeans for dinner out or with black pants for the office.
All Purpose Dresses:
When it comes to shopping for new dresses for fall, you’ll want to choose ones that can be dressed up or down. Y’all know that I love Elie Tahari dresses, so it’s no surprise that my top two picks are from this brand. Their new Nova dress is so versatile and can easily go from day to evening with just a couple of accessory changes. I also plan on hemming mine a bit so that it hits above the knee. Their Freida dress is also such a wardrobe staple. It’s body-con without being overtly sexy and made of a crepe material that is fluid, skimming your curves beautifully. I love the pleats at the neckline and the back of the dress, it gives the overall dress a polished and sculptured look.
Just like I discuss in my book, a little leopard goes a long way, but I love throwing in a leopard top every now in then. Animal prints also make for great statement accessories; pair leopard print shoes, belts and jewelry with solid colors for that fashionable pop of print! I also love this bag from J. Crew as a fun, fall everyday bag.
Fashion investment pieces are luxury items that have a timeless design and will last forever. So it truly pays to buy less but buy pieces that are of higher quality and will last forever. Like these gorgeous scallop suede Prada shoes, a good quality trench coat like this one from Burberry and a Chanel bag.
