Lori’s Fall Fashion Picks from the Runways to your closet

Happy Fall y’all!! I can’t believe it’s already the end of September, this month has gone by so fast. For the fashion-focused among us, it has also been extremely exciting as we watched both the runways at New York Fashion Week and the aisle at Westminster Abbey during Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. Did you know there were so many different ways to make black stylish? Meghan Markle’s chic black caped Stella McCartney dress and large, black hat was just one of the day’s somber yet beautiful tributes to the Sovereign.

Regardless of which major event you might have been watching this September, the fall fashions for 2022 have been an incredible mix of nostalgia and classic. As always, some trends are not in my wheelhouse – like Y2K having a comeback, sheer dresses with pasties, and Balenciaga’s signature football player wide shoulders. Fortunately, there were a lot of great styles, materials, fabrics, and colors that I would love to add to my autumn wardrobe.

From equestrian fashion to cozy, comfy knits, this fall’s fashion wear will make everyone want to leave their homes and paint the town red.

Here are just a sample of my favorite looks from the runway that would be a great addition to your autumn closets. As always, before you buy, make sure you make some space and give away/gift/or trash anything that you haven’t worn in a while:

Lavender:

Lavender and other shades of purple dominated the runway for fall/winter 2022 fashion wear and this gorgeous shade is already in shops and department stores across America. I love this funnel neck cashmere pullover from Nordstroms. You can dress it up for the office or dress down for a casual Sunday at home.

Little Black Dress:

If you know me, you know that I live in my LBD’s especially working at Bridals by Lori. So, I was excited to see two of my favorite trends married in this little black dress made out of faux leather. There was a lot of faux leather on the runways, and you will see them in stores everywhere. From chunky, cropped jackets to mini-pleated skirts, faux leather is a material you’ll be seeing a lot of this fall. Check out this gorgeous faux leather wrap mini dress at Anthropologie!

Plaid Patterns:

If you’ve been paying attention to fall fashion, you’ll likely have seen plaid showing up almost every autumn. What’s different this year, is that these patterns are reserved for really edgy styles. On the runways, Versace introduced plaid in corset dresses and tweed blazers while Gucci showcased plaid capes, suits, and as layering pieces over pants. Fortunately, plaid is just so versatile that you can wear the pattern as frocks or accessories. I like a tailored plaid jacket, like this one from Karl Lagerfeld Paris.

Sequins:

Bling is back and in a big way! The runways were just bursting with glitz and glitter and there’s no wrong way to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe. I like subtle pops of bling vs. shimmering from head to toe. Try a metallic jeweled belt or shoes and a coveted clutch that will make you and your bag the envy of the evening like this Jem (see what I did there LOL) by Stella McCartney .

Equestrian Fashion:

I’ve sat in the audience of my fair share of fashion week events, but nothing would have prepared me for Monaco royal Charlotte Casiraghi riding a horse down the runway as she did for Chanel at Paris fashion week this August. Talk about a showstopper!! Is there a place for jodhpurs at the office? Only time will tell! But stirrup strap leggings in riding boots underneath a plaid mini skirt will make a style statement. Complete the look with this houndstooth double breasted blazer for those after-work functions. .

Retro Fashion:

Vogue calls the mix of 2022 fall fashion trends “Retro Fashion” since style time traveled from the 1950s with midi-skirts and headscarves to the 1960s with shift dresses and patent leathers. The 70 also shows up this year and I for one am most excited that they shunned the bell bottoms for pussy bow blouses. Try this confetti polka dot silk blouse with that gorgeous bow for the boardroom or a casual dinner out with friends. k.

Camel:

Neutrals are always on display during the fall, so it’s no surprise that we saw so many warm, caramel tones making bold appearances on the runways this season. Don’t be surprised that I’ve picked another soft, wrap cashmere sweater for the list! I love feeling warm and toasty when waking up to that cooler, fall breezes.
